#82 Martha Passakopoulou for 'Dancers on Rooftops' by Ben Hopper (2021)
#82 Martha Passakopoulou for 'Dancers on Rooftops'.
Dec 2, 2021. Athens, Greece.
"As a dance artist and practitioner, I look at the body as a complex system or a charged network; a carrier of its own technology, history, desire, associations and representations. My practice lies in the observation of how the subjective self is a landscape of multiple interactions with others and the world, and by using the body as a tool, I investigate its conscious and subconscious expressions. I look at dance as the materialisation of the above, as well as a way of being.
Dancing in Greece is a tough choice to make for a living. It could be joyful and ecstatic, or hard and disappointing - all at the same time. I love its dirt and roughness filled with sunlight. The easiness and the unpredictable can occur in front of you at any moment. Its vibration and its temperature. I would like to think of ‘dancing in Greece’ as an act of resistance to a system that does not work properly or to a government that does not care at all about the arts. Well, let's keep dancing!"
